Repetition – Your Best Technique

Language learning tips.

If you drive on the same road several times, you will certainly stop using GPS, and be able to navigate on the same road with confidence! Same with a language! When you repeat your learning material several times, you will likely memorize that content.

Let’s learn how the repetition technique can boost your brain during the learning process!!!

If you study a list of new words and do not memorize all of them, you will surely forget their meanings, the spelling, and the pronunciation! For instance, if you are paying for classes and you not taking notes, you later can revise them, but you are doing this wrong and probably wasting your money.

There is something called “spaced repetition” which is a technique that describes how our brain learns more effectively when we space out our learning. The technique recommends that you review what you learned several times for efficient immersion of knowledge. That is why flashcards are always so helpful during many types of studying. Let’s think about it: you study, take notes, review those notes through flash cards every so often, and then the magic happens. The more your sense of perception is stimulated, the more your brain will store that information. Although spaced repetition is related to memorization, it is not necessarily considered a memorization technique. It is a matter of reviewing what you learned over and over. You are reinforcing the importance of that subject to your brain and maximizing the learning improvement through the spacing effect. So let me recap: listen over and over again to the same material. Repeat over and over again the words you have learned! Repetition is most powerful tool to build up your vocabulary!

How should you space it out?

Everyone is different! I recommend a review that typically works for most people, but your timing may be different. Review in the morning what you learned last night, or review tonight what you have learned this morning. Review it once again for the next 3 days. Give it a try!!!
